MONTREAL ASSIGNS OLIVIER FORTIER TO SOLAR BEARS

Forward has Played 106 AHL Games

 

Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears announced today that forward Olivier Fortier has been assigned to the team by the Montreal Canadiens. He is not expected to be in the Solar Bears lineup tonight. Olivier Fortier

Fortier (6'0", 185 lbs.) comes to Orlando after appearing exclusively in the American Hockey League (AHL) throughout his professional career. Last year, the Quebec City, Quebec, native played in 37 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs, scoring eight goals and assisting on seven others for 15 points. In the last three seasons (2009-12), Fortier has played in 106 games for the Bulldogs, with 17 goals, 18 assists, and 35 points.

Drafted in the third round by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Fortier skated for four seasons in the QMJHL with Rimouski and Drummondville. In 2007-08, he won the "Guy Carbonneau Trophy" for best defensive forward, and also collected a Gold Medal in the World Hockey Classic in 2005-06. Fortier played in 205 QMJHL games over four seasons, totaling 161 points (65 goals, 96 assists).

"Olivier plays a solid 200-foot game and knows how to take care of his own zone," said Head Coach Drake Berehowsky.
